New caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has received a clear message about January Transfers from Manchester United CEO Ed Woodward.
According to a report by The Mirror, Solskjaer has been given a transfer restriction by the United board. It is believed that the Norwegian is told that he can only sign players on loan this January. The caretaker manager will not be allowed to spend the budget on any new signings in the winter transfer window.
According to the reports, it is suggested that United will look to stockpile the budget for the summer transfer window. In that way, the new manager in the next season will be allowed to spend as much he would like to bolster the squad.
It has also been believed that Solskjaer was informed of this strategy. The Norwegian was told prior to the agreement that he will not be allowed to perform any transfer business during his spell at the club. Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward made it clear to Solskjaer that he will only be allowed to add players on loan.
Temporary moves will not be allowed. Instead, cash will be saved for the incoming manager.
Sacked Jose Mourinho spent more than £410million in the transfer market. And adding that to the outlay under previous bosses Louis van Gaal and David Moyes, the net spend is a whopping £750m.
However, during his press conference last week, the United manager insisted that he will have ‘input’ in any business the club make in January. He also revealed that the club already has a list of targets identified.
Rumors about the January Transfers
In other news, it has been reported that Paul Pogba is open to leaving the club in January. Italian giants Juventus have already lined up a move to bring Paul back to Turin. Italian newspaper Tuttosport have reported that Juventus are ready to bolster their squad in order to compete for the Champions League this season. Real Madrid midfielder Isco and United’s Paul Pogba are the potential targets.
Juventus are confident to make these remarkable signings. However, the sacking of Jose Mourinho has blown their hopes of signing Pogba as he might reconsider his decision now. Pogba cut a frustrated figure under the guidance of the Portuguese coach. But is looking to revitalize his Old Trafford career under Solskjaer.
