United are on red alert after Juventus defender Medhi Benatia implied that he may leave the Italian champions in January.
Leonardo Bonucci’s return to Turin has seen Benatia shoved down the striking order at the Allianz Stadium. He has made just four openings in Serie A so far this season, and just one in the Champions League.
The Moroccan was associated with Arsenal and Barcelona after talking of his frustrations on Monday, but the news of a world-class center available in the market will certainly catch the consideration of Jose Mourinho as well.
“If [Juventus] need me in the Champions League, I will make myself ready. But I can hardly play a game every so often. Last year I did well because I had more continuity. Unfortunately, now I do not have it,” Benatia said to La Stampa
“This is my job and I always need to work hard to be ready to play but it’s a situation I don’t like.’
He added: ‘I am 31 and I want to play as much as I can. Let’s see what happens in January, how many games I will play.
Jose Mourinho boss had the desire to sign a new defender over the summer but moves for Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld fell through, much to Jose’s frustration.
That does not inevitably mean that a move for either player is dead in the water, but Benatia may be a feasible choice if he chooses to leave Juventus in the January transfer window.
The club is looking forward to having a busy January transfer window. Mourinho is keen on bringing new talent as he prepares to rescue United after a shambolic start to the season.
Benatia made 54 appearances for Juventus over the last two seasons since his move from Bayern Munich in 2016, winning the domestic double in each of his two seasons with Bianconeri.
Tuttosport has also recognized highly-rated Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt as Juventus’ favorite replacement for Benatia.
