Manchester United move to the eighth spot in the Premier League table after beating Everton by 2-1 at home, thanks to goals from Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.
United were looking to get back in form after their midweek defeat against Juventus in the Champions League. A win was much needed to calm down the rising tension surrounding the red side of Manchester.
Paul Pogba’s rebound goal from the spot and Anthony Martial’s clinical finish in the second half were enough for United to grab all three points. This was indeed United’s one of the best attacking performances in a long time. Jose’s side looked dangerous from the start.
Former Everton man Romelu Lukaku failed to earn a spot in the starting XI for United due to his poor run of form. The Belgian has failed to score at Old Trafford since March 2018. He paid the price by starting on the bench however, he later came on for United in the 65th minute.
United took the lead in the 27th minute of the game when Anthony Martial was fouled by Idrissa Gueye in the penalty area. Paul Pogba stepped forward to take the penalty and scored from the rebound after it was initially saved by Pickford.
Jose’s side strengthened their lead in the early minutes of the second half when Anthony Martial scored beautifully from the edge of the box, assisted by World Cup winner Paul Pogba.
David De Gea has once again failed to keep the clean sheet after United conceded a penalty in the 77th minute of the game. Paul Pogba sloppily gave the ball away in the midfield before Chris Smalling tackled Richarlison in the box and referee signaled for a penalty. Sigurdsson took the opportunity and smashed it in with De Gea going towards the opposite side.
However, United managed to secure a win after crucial final minutes at Old Trafford. They have now moved up to the eighth position in the League table and next face Bournemouth in the Premier League.
