Manchester United Captain Antonio Valencia and new boy Diogo Dalot are already out of the season opener due to injuries.
Another injury crisis at United as manager Mourinho confirmed that midfielder Nemanja Matic will miss the start to the season. He has recently gone through abdominal surgery in Philadelphia.
Matic, who appeared in complete 90 minutes of all three games for Serbia was on holiday after the World Cup. He has not performed in a single match for Manchester United at the pre-season.
As quoted by BBC Sport, Mourinho confirmed that Matic picked up an injury at the World Cup. The time he had to rest on holidays was not enough to heal the problem.
The 29-year-old Serbian glided straight to Philadelphia to meet a specialist. He didn’t even get to leave the clinic as he was admitted immediately for surgery.
Nemanja Matic has now returned to Manchester for recovery. He will not recuperate in time to face Leicester in the season opener on 10th August 2018.

This news was indeed a major turn off for Mourinho. Nemanja Matic is one of Mourinho’s most trusted players in the squad.
Manchester United was already facing huge injury crises as Captain Antonio Valencia was injured during a match again San Jose Earthquakes.
Diogo Dalot is also recovering from a knee surgery he had at the start of this year. These both players are expected to miss first few games of the league.
In the absence of all these injured players, United was whipped by Liverpool in Michigan. Manchester United lost 4-1.
As many of the key players are still on holiday after the World Cup, Mourinho is certainly very frustrated with the pre-season schedule.
Still, hopes are high as Manchester United will certainly sign a player or two before the transfer window closes on August 9.
